Unique Wood & Custom Services

We’re happy to assist you with everything from supplying the wood to completing a custom project.

Live Edge Slabs

Every piece of wood used at Cut & Dry Lumber Co. is harvested from the urban forest in Albuquerque and is obtained only after a tree has fulfilled its purpose in the urban landscape. Whether the tree was removed due to instability, disease, or age, we feel that the value is far from gone. Because the trees were not grown for lumber production, each piece is uniquely imperfect. We typically cut slabs around 2” thick and keep the natural edge in tact to honor the natural beauty. Our wood ranges from $11 - $22 per board foot.

Custom Milling

Wether you pick out a slab from us that you need cut to size for a particular project or you bring us a log that you sourced elsewhere, we can mill it to your specifications. We also offer planing and finishing services and are happy to help you with your project from start to finish.

Make-to-Order Furnishings

If you’re interested in reclaimed wood products but aren’t a woodworker yourself, we also sell finished products such as light fixtures, bar tops, river tables, benches, desks, mantles, charcuterie boards, and more. And we’re happy to custom build finished products if you know exactly what you’re looking for but haven’t found it yet.

Our Mill

We use a Wood-Mizer LX 250 band mill that can cut up to 54” wide & 18’ long. We also have an industrial 24” planer and 16” jointer, as well as a large sander for your surfacing needs.

Local Wood Species

Some of the woods we commonly have are Ash, Elm, Honey Locust, Cottonwood, Russian Olive, Sycamore Mulberry, and Ponderosa Pine. We do not carry kiln-dried, treated, or structural lumber.

Drying Timeline

From the time a live tree is removed to when it becomes usable milled lumber, it takes up to 2 years. In our desert climate, our biggest concern is the log drying out too quickly and splitting/warping, so we paint the ends of the logs and let them sit for about a year before we make any cuts. Then they are milled, stacked, & set out to dry for another 6 - 8 months.
